History

Nestled in the gently rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Trussville Springs sits on the banks of the Cahaba River, the longest free flowing river in Alabama.  Known to Native Americans as “Oka Aba” or “Waters Above”, the Cahaba is home to more species of fish per mile than any other river in North America and more native species of fresh water fish than the entire state of California.

For centuries, Muscogee tribes hunted, fished, and farmed around villages along the fertile riverbanks.  In the early 1800s, Warren Truss, enticed by stories of rich lands and abundant springs, settled in the area.  Soon thereafter, he built a gristmill at the junction of the Cahaba and the main wagon train route, and the village of Truss was born.

Almost two centuries later, at the same junction of the Cahaba and what is now Main Street, the new village of Trussville Springs was founded and dedicated to Family, Nature, Simplicity, Beauty, and Grace.
